Trip Description:

This is a primitive weekend camp out and fishing adventure in Shoalwater Bay. It requires a 5.1 mile paddle to the camping area. Everyone must be able to carry all their gear, food and water (2-3 gallons) needed for the weekend. There are no planned group meals, but you can make that happen. A marine radio is an essential item for this trip.

The weather is more unpredictable this time of year and is the main reason for the advanced rating, along with the 5.1 mile paddle with all your gear, water, and food.  Everyone needs to watch the weather forecast and pack the appropriate clothing and gear for the current forecast.  Plan for wind.

Shoalwater Bay is one of the few bays on the Texas coast that still has some large grass bottom areas which usually hold clear water allowing for sightcasting. Our camping location will allow easy access to San Antonio and Espiritu Santo Bays as well.  Shell Bar is approximately 1/2 mile away across the bay.

The island landing is little muddy so it is best to wear booties or wading boots since sandals may come off in the muck.

We will meet at Charlies Bait Camp at 08:00 for a 9:00 put-in.  Everyone will have to pay to park their vehicles for the weekend. Parking should be less than $20. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Charlies-Bait-Camp/100505903344226 for limited information.
