Trip Initiator: Blake Colburn
This location is under-rated (especially in the fall). I have actually caught a limit of trout, flounder, and reds here at Anahuac all in the same day (Texas Grand Slam). This has only happened to me once and it was an amazing day! This was back when the trout were at 10 a day (now the limit is five a day).
Launch time at the boat ramp is at 6:30 am. Others will want to drive to the end of the road and launch there on the peninsula. I like launching from the boat ramp because as I troll down the Trinity River, I can usually catch my limit of trout. Right where the Trinity River meets Trinity Bay, the islands there are usually plentiful for fishing!
If you are using artificial, some of the things that work well are:
* soft plastics
* popping corks
* soft plastic w/ blades
* crank baits
* just about anything you would throw elsewhere works here
As the fall arrives and if Anahuac doesn't get too much rain, you can find trophy trout lurking in the Trinity River. Make no mistake, this is a place you will want to hit if you have never done it before.
