Description:

Trip Initiator: Blake Colburn (If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call.  832-588-7091

Trip Description:  If you have never practiced re-entry back into the kayak (otherwise known as deep water re-entry) and would like to learn and/or practice it, this is the trip [training exercise]  for you.  Even though the phrase "deep water re-entry" is mentioned, that more or less means entering the kayak from water that you can't just stand up after capsizing.

Location:  Lake Somerville State Park at Big Creek Unit. DAY USE FEE: $5 per day, per person 13 and over. There is a boat ramp where we will meet and launch from.  LAUNCH TIME IS AT 9:00 AM.

If you plan to fish afterwards, I highly recommend leaving all fishing gear in your vehicle until you feel you are finished practicing re-entry so that you don't risk losing gear.

Other things to consider:  Bring would be a change of clothes, you will be getting in the water.  A Kayak Stand Up Assist/Pull-Up Strap (I have found this to work better than most other re-entry related items) can be found on Amazon.   Suggest wearing sunscreen. Have something to keep your sunglasses from coming free and sinking.  Do not forget a PFD and perhaps a VHF radio, with a lanyard for communication if you have it.

How to Sign Up:  If you want to go, login, and click the [Enroll for this Event?]  link at the top of this page to automatically have your name added to the list.
