PACK meeting minutes October 16, 2007
PACK opened the meeting and welcomed new members and guests. Any one interested in becoming an officer for next year is encouraged to volunteer or notify existing officers of their interest. Nominations will be accepted at the next meeting.
Orders are still being taken for PACK Hats and bumper stickers are expected to arrive soon. Also, check out the For Sale forum on the web site,
for some items posted for sale.
Numerous personal fishing reports were presented. Good fishing lately around Double Bayou in Trinity Bay, Smith Point, and the north shoreline of East Bay. Dick M. reports that the flounder run is starting with some keepers showing around Double Bayou, Rollover, and Sea Wolf. The upcoming cold front should get the mommas moving and leaving the marshes for their traditional march to the gulf. Jason T had a huge trout and red haul near Panther Point.
Frank Canneto reported on last month’s trip to Cedar Bayou. The group had excellent weather and camping conditions. Frank prepared his usual fajita feast for the group on Friday. Surf fishing was outstanding at times and good the rest of the time. Good catches of trout, reds, occasional gaftop, and other species were working the trout green surf. Some good redfish were caught in the bayou along with some scattered trout. Also present were large numbers of large stingrays working the shorelines along the mouth of the bayou. No large sharks or tarpon landed by Frank this year.
Frank will also be leading the trip to Panther Point on Oct.19. A large group is expected to make the trip and excellent conditions are expected.
Chris Arceneaux presented his just completed hand built Sit-On-Top wooden kayak to the group. His many hours of labor were evident as he gave the group a rundown on techniques used and skills required to construct one of these boats. It’s a beautiful craft and will be having its maiden voyage on the Panther Pointe trip. Thanks for sharing your experience Chris.
Also, Jim Tesch has about finalized next years 2008 PACK Cup Tournament Sponsor List and will be contacting folks to assist with contacting sponsors for sponsorship and making arrangements to pick up the tournament prize awards from them.
Upcoming outings include Anuahuac Wildlife Refuge on October 27 and in November 9-11th we will have the annual Bolivar Hilton trip and The Flounder Run trip on the 10th. Please see PACK website for details under Events for further information. The November PACK meeting will hope to host Capt Steve Soule “The Shallowist” who is an expert at locating that Trophy Trout. Also, since the last meeting it looks like we will be tentatively having the December PACK meeting at the St Arnold’s Brewery to have a festive Holiday Feast. Include in the night’s festivities we will have the 2008 Officer Elections, 2007 PACK Video (including the 2007 Panther Point Video), Door Prizes and some other great activities. Be watching for further announcements for this engagement and we will discuss at Novembers’ meeting.
