Update on Matagorda Beach Trip April 20-22

I'm still getting used to this new site. I went through the old Yahoo Group route and stated that we have moved the primary camping headquarters to the Lower Colorado River Authority RV Campground at the beach. So 4WD is not necessary. Those who want to take advantage of primative camping up the beach can certainly do so. Barry Sandler and Ron Romeis scouted out the area last weekend and provided info added to the revised Trip Details.

Here are some specific GPS and mileage details: ...The public beach access
road is .5 mi north of the RV Park. Beach access has been made walk-in only
at the end of FM2031. From the turn off on the public beach access road, it
is exactly 7 miles down the beach to the old tank which marks the spot of a
4 wheel track to the bay access. The GPS coordinates of this road are N 28
38.537 W 95 51.864. From where the road turns towards the bay, it is approx
.6 miles of 4 wheel track to bayside launch spot at Hog Island cove. The
beach conditions definitely would require 4 wheel drive to make the 7  miles
to Hog Island. There are spots where the sand is well packed, but anyone
doing it in 2 wheel, will risk getting stuck at some point. There are a
couple other 4 wheel tracks to access the bay from the beach. There is a
track approx 2.5 miles from the public access road. This area is easily
detected GPS N 28 36.699 W 95 56.437, there is likely to be more traffic and
people at this spot. The next spot is approx 5.6 miles from the access road
at N 28 37.997 W 95 53.126 and is identifiable by an old windmill and stand
of trees and cane. We did not test this road but would be at least .5 miles
to launch spot and definitely 4 wheel.
