Lower San Bernard River 
Saturday July 14th, 2012
 
Trip Description:
 San Bernard River to the surf, options to fish Cowtrap Lakes, Cedar Lakes, and Jones Lakes. These locations are some of the most productive fisheries in the area for redfish, trout, and flounder. Lots of shallow water and oysters in the particular areas. Many limits of redfish have been taken from these small lakes.

NOTE: Paddling distance from the launch is approximately:

0.5 miles to Cedar Lake
1.8 miles to Jones Lake
1.1 miles to the surf
5.0 miles to Cowtrap Lakes

Watch the tides, the wind, weather, temperature and dress appropriately. Always were your PFD, PLEASE.

How to Get There:
 
1: From Houston TX-288 South towards Angleton/TX 288 South
2: Take FM-2004 ramp towards RICHWOOD.
3: Merge onto FM-2004 South
4: FM-2004 South becomes FM-2611 @ 36
5: From FM-2611 turn LEFT onto FM-2918
6: FM-2918 RD will dead end at the Intercoastal/Launch

Recommended guidelines for participates:

  • Make sure trip leader or an officer has your emergency contact
  • Notify the trip leader if you have any potential concerns
  • If inexperienced, then buddy up. Make sure the trip leader knows your experience level
  • Communicate with the trip leader, if you are unsure of your skill level required
  • Member dues are current
  • Guests are invited to particpate
  • Have performed deep water entries
  • Cary a first aid kit
  • Have a life jacket
  • Have a VHF radio
  • Inform the trip leader of your float plan if planning to fish alone or longer then the designated times.
  • Sign in and sign out at the launch site. Inform the trip leader if you will be launching in a different place.

  • Insures proper authorizations
  • Secure sites
  • Prepare emergency preparedness plan
  • Keep abreast of weather conditions that might effect the trip
  • Point out any potential area hazards
  • Maintain a head count

PACK Meetings are normally held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month  at 6:00pm at Trini Mendenhall Community Center, 1414 Wirt Road,  Houston, TX.
