This is a great spot for kayak fishing. There are multiple launch options and fishing venues in the vicinity of Stingaree Marina and the south shoreline of East Bay. The management of the bait camp at Stingaree is very kayak friendly and their boat ramp is only a short paddle to Stingaree Cut and the marshes along the intracoastal. An added bonus is the excellent seafood restaurant at the marina for that post-paddle bowl of Cajun style gumbo or cold adult beverage.

From the Bolivar Ferry, proceed to Crystal Beach. Turn left on Stingaree Road and continue to the marina. Phone for Stingaree Marina: 409-684-9530. GPS 29 28.94N,   94 36.36 W. Live bait is available and they monitor VHF Channel 69.

Bring your usual paddling gear and safety equipment plus appropriate food and drinks. A VHF radio is advisable or other communications tools, cell phone or two-way radio.

If launching from Stingaree, head east or west on the intracoastal and fish the many marsh cuts and small back lakes along the Intracoastal. (Watch for barge traffic if you are along the edges of the intracoastal)  Go north through Stingaree Cut, left is Fat Rat Pass about 1 mile away, or Pepper Grove Reef, Middle Reef, and Deep Reef are within reasonable paddling distance if wind allows. Also, East from the cut is Yates Bayou, Big Pasture Bayou, and the shoreline of Long Point. There are also launch spots at Rollover Pass and the flats behind the pass.

 

High Tide is at approx: 10:35 a.m., and there is a long outgoing tide until the low at 6:52 p.m.
