Description:

Trip Initiator: Joel Berry

The Bolivar trip is on, instead of staying at the usual beach house, we will again be car camping at the Bolivar Peninsula RV park at 1685 State HW 87. It worked out well last year lets do it again. Once you get off the ferry, it is exactly 10.4 miles on the left. The Stingeree Marina is another 3.7 miles.

Enclosed is a map of the RV park. I have reserved three sites so far, but I can reserve more if needed. (If you look at the map, the three sites are #37, #38, and #39) Each site can accommodate three tents. If your staying 2 nights the cost is $30 or $45 for 3 nights. If you plan to bring an RV or Pop Up the cost will likely be a bit more.  There are bathrooms and showers about 100 feet away, and each site has running water and electricity, so just in case its still warm at night, you can run an extension cord for a fan in your tent.

I plan on arriving on Thursday Nov 4th. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU PLAN ON BEING THERE FOR TWO NIGHTS OR THREE.

Reserving on Thursday thru Sunday makes it easier to get on the water early Friday morning. Many enjoy the relaxation on Thursday night and an early start on Friday.

I WILL NOT BE PROVIDING MEALS ON THIS TRIP. There are several good resturants to choose from and a large grocery store that has hot food and across the street is G's Mexican Restaurant which is supposed to serve a very nice breakfast, beginning at 6am. Jose's Cantina is also very good. The best of course is the Stingaree Marine Resturant where we will dine on Saturday night if you wish to join. If you bring your own filet, they will cook it for you with 2 sides for the price of $12.95, for an extra $5 they will make it ala Ponchatrain (Can't beat that).

There is a grill at the campsite if you wish to use it, along with several picnic tables. Ice is available at the office for $2/bag.

Hopefully, mosquitos will not be an issue, but be prepared. Also, don't forget the earplugs-SOME of us snore!

Since we will not be cozily confined to the beach house it is more friendly to Women and Teens.

For those who have not been on this trip before, you are welcome to fish anywhere you want, but most of us launch from the Stingeree Marina and fish the nearby marsh ( a 10-minute paddle) which is usually full of reds and flounder this time of year, along with some BIG black drum. The marina bait shop might not have live bait  but thats no problem- there is  DJ's Bait Shop about a mile from the RV park on HW 87, so don't forget your bait bucket and an aerator. Live bait is the surest way to a stringer full of reds. I always choose a weekend with good tides, so as long as the weather cooperates, the fishing should be good to excellent!

Interestingly, there is a small lake (or large pond) right next to the camp site, which according to the manager, has some nice reds, so thats another option.

If you wish to come, please sign up promptly and please send your check ($30/2 Nights or $45/3 Nights) to Joel Berry  12414 Rocky Knoll  Houston Tx. 77077.
