Trip Description:

For those of you that have never caught chain pickerel before (a type of pike) but would love to knock this one off of your bucket list, this is the trip for you.  From what I have gathered over the years, Texas only has a few lakes that carries this type of fish.  It's not easy to catch these fish in Texas to say the least.  The Texas Lakes are Lake Dangerfield and Lake Caddo.

This trip is in Arkansas and the drive is 6 hours from Houston, Texas.  You will be responsible for booking your own rooms.  It would be best to book a room at any hotel/motel in Caddo Valley, AR nearest to Hwy 30 and 67.  The launch is very near this area.  There are a few places to eat in Caddo Valley as well.  If you are arriving a day or two early, reach out to me and I will be happy to give you additional details on how to fish the area.

The best fishing for pickerel is when it's cold, a slight wind, and a touch of rain.  If we do not have these conditions, I will reschedule this trip.  Be sure to book your room(s) to where you can cancel without penalty in case I have to change to a different weekend for more applicable conditions.

Artificial is the way to go for chain pickerel.  Some of the things that work well are:

*  small sized soft plastics (white bass/crappie style)

*  spinner baits

*  Smithwick  (top water and/or suspending jerk baits)

*  Rapala  (Rap/Shadow Rap)  topwater and/or suspending

*  soft plastic swim baits

*  chatter baits

(((((All these baits can be bought at Academy, Bass Pro Shop, or Fishing Tackle Unlimited)))))

Also, you will want to add trailer hooks to some of your lures.  For details on this, don't hesitate to contact me.

There are large mouth bass in this lake of which I have caught while going after pickerel.  This lake is beautiful and a lot of fun to fish!  It's going to be cold so be ready to layer up.  Bring rain gear as it will more than likely be wet.  Unlike Texas coastal waters, pickerel thrive in cold and wet days.  They do not like sunny and warm (at least not at this lake, lol).

Launch time is at 7:30 am.  There is no launch fee.  If you have any questions, feel free to call me.  832-588-7091

How to Sign Up:

If you want to go, login, and click the link below to automatically have your name added to the list.

How to Get There:

Once everyone has signed up and it gets closer to the date of the event, I will have the launch spot posted.  There are two spots to launch.  One of them was out of commission.  I need to see what is going on and then I will have a better idea on which spot to launch at.
