Trip Description:

VERY IMPORTANT...... IN ORDER TO DO THIS TRIP, YOU NEED TO HAVE A 4WD VEHICLE.  IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS, YOU NEED TO RIDE WITH SOMEONE THAT HAS ONE.  THE PASS WE WILL DRIVE THROUGH IS NOT 2WD FRIENDLY AT ALL!  BE SURE TO FIND A BUDDY TO RIDE WITH IN PACK THAT HAS A 4WD VEHICLE SO YOU CAN GET YOUR KAYAK THROUGH THE PASS, DOWN THE ROAD, AND TO THE LAUNCH.

This is a rare opportunity to fish Baffin Bay on a kayak.  The only way to usually fish Baffin Bay is to get there by boat.  You can kayak fish Baffin Bay by going through Yarborough Pass and that will take you directly to the bay.

For those of you that don't know much about Yarborough Pass, this pass takes you to the heart of Baffin Bay.  Once you hit the water, you will start fishing fairly quickly.  This area doesn't get pressured at all hardly which makes for some pretty great fishing!

If you have always wanted to fish Baffin Bay, this is your chance.  This is a 3-day trip; Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  I plan on getting to the beach and camping Friday evening and leaving on Monday in the later half of the day after I finish fishing.

If you arrive to the PINS (Padre Island National Seashore) pay booth during hours, the fee to get in is $10.00 per vehicle per day or $25.00 for the entire week.  There is an annual pass you can purchase if you think you will fish this area quite a bit.  For those details, you can call the park or check with them when you arrive.  If you arrive after hours, you can pay on your way out.

The choice of lures to use on this trip is pretty much anything and everything you would use on any other trip.  I would suggest to using flourocarbon leaders since the water down at Baffin Bay is much clearer than our dirty water in Galveston/Freeport area.  Stringers are encouraged for your catch.  If you are fishing the right area and you hit that early morning bite, you are going to love using top water lures.  A popping cork should be something you have already hooked up in your arsenal and ready to go.  If you have any other questions on lure selections, please don't hesitate to contact me.  832-588-7091

How to Get There:

The address to PINS is:  20301 Park Rd 22, Corpus Christi, TX 78418

This address is to the entrance pay booth of PINS.  Once you have gone through the booth, continue to drive down the road until it dead ends into the beach.  There is some pillars to the left when you arrive on the beach.  You will only be able to turn right.  From here, set your tripometer to 0.  You will want to go down the beach for 15 miles, give or take.  Once you arrive, you will see an opening in the dunes (the opening is the pass).  I will be camping fairly close to the dunes either before or after it.  By camping on the beach side, the wind will keep the mosquitoes away.  If you look on Google Maps, you will be able to see Yarborough Pass.

Each morning we will run the vehicles through the pass and down the road to the launch point.  Once we get through the pass, the road is paved and goes down approximately 1.75 miles to the launch.

FYI.....  ONCE YOU ARRIVE ON THE BEACH AT PINS, THERE IS NO CELLULAR ACCESS.  A VHF WOULD BE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR WHEN YOU ARE FISHING ON THE WATER.
