Here's a question for all you highly experienced kayak fishermen and women out there - in your opinion, what's the best way to keep your catch if you are out on a one day trip?  Stringer?  Cooler?  Fish bag?

Mike,

I have a fish bag that fits on the bow for long day trip, a cooler bag that fits in the front hatch and a 8' stringer that I put my fish on until I can put them in my fish bag later. I don't like to drag the fish behind me when I am paddling around. The bag that fits in the hatch I got at Academy for $10 is also insulated, folds up and easy to wash out after each trip when I do get to put fish in it.

Mike, in cooler weather I usually just leave the fish in the water on a stringer.  In hot weather I use a cooler bag from Sams which cost less than $10 as I recall. I won the raffle prize at the PACK Christmas party which was a larger cooler bag that can be mounted on the deck of the boat and will give it a shot this summer.   If you use a bag, I have found it to be helpful to put the ice in a tissue grocery bag and do the same thing with the fish.  This will  make the ice blocks and the bag easier to clean when you get home.  Take care. I have nnovations cooler bag from Academy but it does not keep ice well and the top side of the fish get's hot, so I just drag the fish.

Really, need a cooler in hot weather as the fish will not keep on a stringer if out for more than 2 hours.
