Ok all you bass chasers, I'm going to do Fayette County on 10/16. I'll decide a couple days before, from which park I'll launch, depending on the wind. Generally, I will be there before daylight and plan to be on the way to a fishing spot before dawn. Otherwise, the powerboats will beat us to the spots. Anyone willing to take pot luck, come along.

Ron, as you know I've got alot on my plate presently, however, if I can make it I will. Can only commit about 2-3 days prior. If this lake is half as good in the fall as in spring then it has the potential to be a big fish day.

For others not aware of the quality of fishing on this lake, I can attest to actually seeing a free swimming bass jump into Ron's yak!

I am all in - and looking forward to this bass trip...never been to Fayette County Lake and it has been high on my list for some time now. Will be there well before the rooster crows. Might spend Friday night at the state park to shorten the drive to launch site. Oleyakker - put me on the list. Am planning on spending the night of the 15th at the state park - if a cabin is not available; I will try out the new half dome tent that several of PACK members recommended.

Went fishing a short time today and only managed two keeper bass which I released; might have caught more except learning to cast again with a baitcaster proved more challenging than I anticipated. Must have bird nested my reel %@&^+*&% times before I finally got the reel properly tuned in to my awkward style. Its not like learning how to ride a bike again...it is considerably more difficult - it could be my age, or just my inability to adjust to change this late in the game. Got a couple weeks to practice or the new baitcaster goes on the tackle binnacle list.

Good deal seacow...I most likely will launch from Oak Thicket Park where the cabins are. I did check last night and all the cabins were booked. There may be one of the screened shelters available which is a decent alternative and a way to avoid any bloodsuckers. As of now, I don't plan to camp the friday before, but I may change my mind. I may spend the night in a hotel in the area to avoid the really early departure from Kingwood...I didn't check on campsite availability. You will need to contact TPWD reservations to book a site. google " fayette County camping" and it should take you to Bob Green's web site with links to the park's amenities.
The best colors for baits on Fayette are red's and greens... watermelon varieties. Small worms, either fished carolina rigged or wacky style work well for me. This time of year there should be a good topwater bite early also. Later, red rattletrap type baits are great too for when searching for fish. i plan to take my fly rod and chunk a few flies too... Look forward to seeing you. ~<""><
