Ok looking for suggestions from some of you folks who fish during cold times. I have never gone fishing in my kayak during cold times well because I don't like the cold but there are some trips coming up in the months that the weather and water will or could possibly be cold or cool. So I am trying to see what I might need for this type of outing. I have done some research and of course you can get 50 answers from 50 sites but figured I would toss it out there to you all for some info. Trying to keep the gear to a minimum cause cold weather fishing isn't something I will be doing a ton but will look into the basics.

I do have a pair of dry pants but I may have become to fat to wear them comfortably (LOL).

Fishing out of either my Hobie Outback or my Tarpon 140 or my Paddleboard but mostly my Outback around the South Texas area.

I know there are waders but haven't really used them before so not sure what is best to go with and are they functional with a peddle kayak. If waders am assuming I would need to get reef boots that are a larger size as my current reef boots are fit to my feet normally.
Gloves: Yes or No
Underlayers is key area I am looking at in what to get to stay warm interested in what any of you might be using.

Well appreciate any info anyone is willing to toss out there.

Blaine,

Waders are a must when the water is less than 60 degrees. If you are not going to wade fish then wadelight waders will do. If the Air temp is greater that 45 degrees you can get by with a light under coat plus a rain jacket like frog tog, this is mainly to block the wind and keep any water off of you. I also wear a neck gator, beanie, and light gloves to warm my hands.

Blaine, avoid cotton fabric clothing at all costs. Research quick drying, wicking fabrics that will not draw heat from your body the way cotton will. Fleece is ideal for outer layers. Under Armor makes great under layers. Have a complete set of cotton-free clothes + towel and sweater in a dry bag. Don't paddle along in winter if you can avoid it. There are fewer people on the water in winter. Chris
