Howdy Folks,
I was looking at the events calendar and was considering the Goose Island trip this weekend, but I am a "newbie". Is this a trip I should make? I have 3 paddling excursions under my belt and one fishing trip at Lake Raven in Huntsville State Park. One of the paddling trips was on a windy, choppy, rough day at Clear Lake Park where I did well, heck the only time I took a dive was on Lake Raven on an ice cream smooth day . Oh and this would be my FIRST real kayak fishing trip, but I am a long time wader getting back into fishing this past year.
I appreciate any feedback any can offer as I need to make a decision.
Goose Island SP is a good trip for newbies for a couple of reasons - lots of different areas to fish and it is easy paddling if the wind and weather are ok and the camp grounds are close to the water and have all the facilities you need - you can camp primitive or with full up RV and hook ups - you have bathrooms and electrical if needed. It is a place we have fished alot before and members know the area well. Hook up with someone from the group who knows the area. It is imperative that we all keep track of each other. There are group meals planned sometimes as well. Contact Chef Greg the trip leader if you have more questions.
Chickn:
I was a "newbie" as well to Goose Island and fished it with my stepson in July for the first time. Its a great place to fish, caught some reds, it is clean and has a nice lighted dock. Unfortunately camping isn't my thing, to much of that in the military. I more into the Marriott's.
Thanks for the responses,
My boat is being checked for a warranty issue and I'm not sure things will be resolved in time for the trip. No I won't mention any manufacturer, but the dealer immediately addressed my concern and went to work.
