MEMO TO ALL:

We will be at Reitan Point (I-45 southbound Frontage Road Exit 6) well
before 8 AM for the volunteer assignments shuffle, for sign-in and so
forth.  Everybody's got to sign in.  Thereafter, assuming we have
floatable water and that both the aforementioned motorized vessels need
a real boat ramp, I'd suggest continuing on to Fat Boys under the
bridge and putting in for a run around Virginia Point and up to Swan
Lake.

As we discussed, paddlers will head from Reitan Point back up the other
side of the I-45 Corridor, then up to the GCWDA plants off Loop 197
(two sites identified, one at 40 Acre and the other at Campbell Bayou.
We may choose to do one, or both, depending on site conditions that
day).  Nobody with decent traction should get stuck if it doesn't rain
a whole lot between now and then.  If it does, the 40 Acre site will
still be accessible....   It's the easier site to find (head into the
facility gate, do not turn left into the plant, continue on past on the
new gravel road to end at Swan Lake).  Unless you get word from me
between now and then otherwise, let's establish that site as the
meeting spot.  Assuming we have enough paddlers, we will migrate to the
more southerly site off Campbell Bayou Road.   It requires being led in
to find.

If I am not at Reitan Point, and you see my White Defender 90 Land
Rover (jeep-like) parked along Loop 197, I am probably watching for
you!  So...please stop!!

Jared Judy is bringing an ATV from TNC to help collect bagged trash on
the shoreline.  He came out for a look-see last week - he's been to
both sites.  He was also talking about a paddling distance map to
assist.  In my absence (and I may get stuck elsewhere) Jared's our
paddler captain along with you Adrian.  I'll probably be
troubleshooting all three Swan Lake sites...
Greg and I are most likely bringing our 2-man boat.  If we can't get
into it for the cleanup, it may be available for spare volunteers.

I'm sorry we are sort of making this part of Trash Bash up as we go
along - It's a first!  I'll need your feedback after the event with
improvement suggestions.

Jared-  I'm thinking we can utilize the three Swan Lake sites we have
to advantage (including the pedestrian contingent at Malone, headed up
by husband Greg and Don Stevenson on our board) in expediting the trash
collection, since it's not necessary to haul trash to your specific
put-in point.  With the collection boats and multiple access points,
here's betting we'll be in good shape.  Now let's hope there's trash!
And water!

IMPORTANT - All boaters remember:  Nobody goes north past GCWDA 40 Acre
facility toward the port.  Basically, whichever site you end up at,
work south and across.  This is especially true of the motor boats, but
also applies to paddlers!!!!

Finally, if the water's too skinny at Swan Lake, there are options,
including covering the shoreline on foot, and sending some people (we
are expecting a few canoes) back to the Estuary Corridor to some deeper
channels to access the marshes.  So don't not come if the tide chart
looks unfavorable!!  And bring appropriate footwear for a possible Plan
B.

We will be at the SG Blue Camp Friday night if anyone is about.  Set-up
starts at Reitan Point Friday afternoon.  Call us.

See you out there!

PS.  Word to all paddlers:  Liz on our board discouraged me from
getting pull-behind floatation equipment, but if anybody else has
suggestions on this, please do input.  She says she can haul three bags
of light-weight trash on her boat, using bungee cords.   I will come
equipped with bungees, but if anybody has some, throw them in!!!

PPS.  Got any volunteer numbers for me that have not already gone to
Gordon Pederson?
