HIt Keith's Lake saturday in traitor fashion. Succumbed to use of motorized craft, in this case a small jon boat. We dodged the rain for the most part and managed to scratch out some reds. Went to the mouth of the back lakes previously visited by PACK and anchored up and fished a roaring incoming tide at the intersection of the canal and the mouth of the lake. Tossed live shrimp into the current and found a sweet spot which produced repeated strikes. Had a few misses and tied on a redfish spinner bait and started hooking up. Continued to catch mostly rat reds until the tide slacked. Did manage one keeper on a Bruce B special sand eel. Moved over to the other side of the lake trying to fish the protected shoreline. Went back into the bayou and found some beautiful back lakes which were too shallow for us to enter. Knew we should be in yaks...... but on the way out of the marsh started hitting the drains where there were multiple intersecting bayou drains. Scored a few more reds including one more keeper on live shrimp. Drowned the rest of our shrimp and dealt with the usual live bait stealers including some dandy blue crabs that just wouldn't let go. Wasn't a great day of catching but once again Keith's Lake proved to be productive and lightly trafficed. There were only 5 trailers at the boat lauch and saw no kayaks. Only got rained on a couple times.
Good to hear that you had a nice day fishing. I wish I was there.
Good report Oleyakker. Thanks for the information. Sounds like a location deserving of some more attention. See you on the island in a few weeks. Jim R
