Had a good time fishing E. Matagorda and 3-Mile Lake with Michael H. and Ron R. this past weekend. We camped at the LCRA campground, not as crowded as reported by the booking office.  The mosquitos were ever present.  Ron will tell you where he cornered some red's on Friday.  I was too proud to potlick, so I went in search of my own school and got skunked. (I won't make that mistake again.) On Saturday we met up with Michael who carried us to 3-mile Lake in his 4-Wheel drive and put us on to some fish there. Michael stuck 2 reds early, and a trout later.  I scored an awesome trout blind casting in a channel and keeper red on the edge of the bay.  Good camping companions, margaritas and fresh boiled crabs, photo's to follow. Chris, Pot Licking does not bother Ron so don't worry-I don't think he would have been offended.  Glad you guys had a good time.  I look forward to seeing the pictures. Jim R

What Chris failed to mention was that I got ingloriously skunked on Saturday while Chris and Mackerel both were catching. I sat and watched Mackerel make several drifts down a channel, watched him skillfully work a jig, and pick up nice reds. I threw my assortment of wanna bee's at the same water, had two takers escape the hook before getting to the boat and missing a few strikes and blowups. I stayed behind and continued to stalk some reds that never materialized and Chris and Michael paddled on. Their strategy paid off in a keeper for Chris and Nada for moi. Now as to Chris's potlicking...I was frantically waving my paddle, arms, and tried to get him to come into a cove where I had found some tailing reds. I don't think that would have qualified him as a potlicker...But, alas, he paddled on around the point and we struck out the rest of the day. It was a nice weekend, we had comfortable sleeping thanks to Chris's air conditioned, popup camper, and great fresh crabs thanks to the scavenged crab trap that Chris retrieved, baited, and harvested. Its really a different deal, car camping with power, water, and hot showers. Maybe I should rethink this primitive camping stuff.......

I will potlick the next time I'm invited. Why I didn't see the waving paddle I don't know.  Just to be clear, the crab trap was high and dry in the E. Matty marsh before I re-enlisted it in the Colorado River to harvest crabs once again.
