Friday May 20, seven PACK members headed out to Matagorda Island for the weekend. Six members took two water-taxis the 9 miles to the campsite. One member sailed his Hobie Adventure over to the Island. We all started fishing by noon making it over to Pringle Lake. Everyone caught lots of fish. Gary Z had the big catch of the day by catching and landing a Jack Crevalle, Gary was surprised his trout rod survived the landing of the Jack.

The weather was perfect for fishing. Friday evening we had a group meal of blackened fish tacos, with spanish rice and black beans. It’s not a PACK outing without a little weather, Saturday morning about 3 am we had a light rain. Saturday was a windy day, making paddling and fishing difficult. Most didn’t paddle very far from camp. Few fish were landed on Saturday. Sunday the weather was perfect, light wind, and the fish were biting. At noon the two water-taxis returned to take us back to Clarks for our return home. It was a good trip; the bonus for the trip everyone caught a lot of fish. We will be heading back to Matagorda Island next year for sure. Ken Jennings

If you are ever looking for a productive trip, with high probability of catching fish, having paddle-in, paddle-out options, camping with like-minded friends, this is the trip. If birding and nature photography are side hobbies, then this is really the place to be. The beauty of this trip is that for a very reasonable fee, our fishing guide / water-taxi friends can help us cover the 9 miles to the camp ground with ice chests and comforts not associated with primitive camping. Thanks guys for throwing in with us on this trip! Like Ken said, see you on the next one. Chris Arceneaux
