Any great fishing trip report will include some references to numbers, size and species. Its obvious, on this 2019 Panther Point Trip, the fish cooperated. As we worked the area, experimented with new locales, tied on different lures – fish were were brought to the kayak. For some it was catch and release. There is only so much room in the cooler.
This destination is the “Big One” for many of us. Yes, it takes some effort to get there and the weather has to cooperate. Our shuttle boss Capt Van Critendon Jr. organizes the ferry across the bay and to our campsite with ease. The trip over on Friday Nov. 8 was wet for 2-3 of the guys in loaded bay boats and 2' seas. A bit windy at first, few guys got set up in time to catch fish. In the early morning hours, the winds laid down, the cloud cover broke and it ideal after that. It even warmed up.
Fish were found in Swan Lake, the Panther Point Lake shoreline and associated ponds, as well as the cut opening up to the bay.
Here are few observations from the 10 participants:
Outstanding trip men. Loved every minute of it. Great location, great guys, great food and great fellowship. Steak dinner and fish feast all superb.
Highlights: The comradely with the PACK guys. The group meal was great. Fresh caught fried fish on the Point, nothing like it. What I remember the most is catching a lot of fish on Saturday and Sunday. I am glad I brought long underwear and a thermal buff. I wish I had a better wind-proof tent.

Wet boat ride over on Friday, 20-25 mph wind on the first day, plenty of fish caught, excellent meals. The boat ride back on Sunday was just fine.

Remember Most: Beautiful weather Sat/Sun. As always, beautiful sunrise/sunsets, sitting around the campfire after good meal with good friends. Thank goodness I brought a good sleeping bag and my Lugable Loo. The privy tent was handy.

Least Used: Too many clothes, I wasn’t sure about the weather. I brought too much food and cookware. I used most everything I packed, we just weren't sure about the meal plan. Chris' plan to catch and keep live bait was totally unnecessary.

Ways to make it better: Make it 4 days and 3 nights. Explore more.
