Still looking for trips and trip leaders for March and April day trips. Contact Brad if you’ve got ideas or want to lead a trip. Planning will start soon for the 2012 fishing tournament. Again, let us know if you want to volunteer or have ideas.
Speaker for the evening:
Scott Null (captainscottnull.com to set up a trip) or see his Facebook page. Author of the book, “Kayak Fishing, the Ultimate Guide”.
Scott has fished the Texas Gulf Coast for many years and specializes in the Galveston Bay area. He fishes out of a kayak but particularly enjoys using his poling skiff to take anglers into the “skinny” waters of the upper Texas marshes chasing redfish. He showed many videos of recent trips into the marsh.
Some tips from the evening:
Buggs lures can be used to imitate crabs.
In cold weather, look for drop offs near shallow flats, they’re worth checking out.
Check out drain entrances into the marsh; particularly look for drains that funnel lots of water into and out of the marsh.
Photography – lighting is key, don’t be afraid to use a flash in bright sunshine to avoid dark faces, consider unusual angles and poses.

The next meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm, February 21st at the Sosa Community Center, 1414 Wirt Road.
