Trip Initiator: Steve Spadoni
Trip Description: This is will be a 1 or 2 night weekend trip to Goose Island State Park (Rockport, Texas).
As of 02/01/2021, NO Bayside campsites are available. (However, if you still need a campsite, you can check availability of sites in the Wooded Area or, periodically, recheck the GISP website in case they have a cancellation on the Bayside sites)
IF YOU HAVE RESERVED A CAMPSITE AND WILLING TO SHARE YOUR SITE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. With your permission, I will post your name at the bottom of this Event page so those without accommodations can contact you directly. ( I will allow you to coordinate amongst yourselves as to cost sharing, arrival/departure times, etc. )
Please visit the park website for details regarding directions to, entrance and campsite fees as well as other information specific to the park. https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/goose-island
The desired campsites are located directly on the bayfront and Goose Island allows for up to 8 people per site with a limit of 4 vehicles (trailers technically count as one and there is overflow parking if needed)

How to Sign Up:

How to Get There:
Refer to the above website for details.
What to Pack/Bring:
1) How about a TENT and make sure it has the correct POLES!?? (Yeah, I took this line from MS)
2) Mosquito spray - I also bring a couple cans of yard spray to kill off those little blood suckers hiding in the grass.
3) VHF Radio - (normally, PACK members use channel 69 to communicate where the fish are)
4) First Aid kit
5) Extension cord - In that electric power is provided at each campsite, you might want to bring an extension cord if you wish to run power to your tent. (campsite hosts: you might coordinate with your hostees who might be able to provide a splitter cable so more than one extension cord can be run to tents)
6) Water, snacks and ice while out killing them there fishies.
REQUIRED READING: guidelines for participates
- Above all else, think SAFETY at all times.
- Bring your life jacket and be aware of pending weather conditions. During past trips, strong storms with high winds caused some issues. Make sure to secure your tents accordingly.
- Make sure trip leader or an officer has your emergency contact information.
- Notify the trip leader if you have any potential concerns or last minute changes in plans.
- If inexperienced, then buddy up. Make sure the trip leader knows your experience level as well as those of your guests (if any).
- Communicate with the trip leader, if you are unsure of your skill level required. No such thing as a stupid question when it comes to your safety.
- Guests are invited to participate.
- Have performed deep water entries. You never know when the weather might shift on your and your get flipped.
- Dry bags for critical gear, keys, electronics.
- VHF radios are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Inform the trip leader or at least 2-3 others of your float plan if planning to fish alone or longer then the designated times (especially after sunset). At a state park campsite, it will be difficult to notice someone missing with all the other campers.
