Trip Description:

This location is relatively easy to fish, with miles of marsh and a good history of redfish and the occasional trout. This area's launch is right off the highway, with a boat launch that feeds directly into a deep channel with fantastic tidal movement (which can move fast on strong tidal days). The channel has scattered shell and dramatic drop-offs that can occasionally hold trout and, oftentimes, have trout at the end of the channel where it feeds into West Cove. As you go farther back into the channel, there are several shoot-offs with miles of good marsh to fish, where I have had good luck with redfish in the past. I have had the best luck with darker paddletails and popping corks, using an artificial (or live) shrimp underneath. An image of the area is shown below.

Sunrise is at 6:38 am, so I aim to be on the water by 6:15 am. I will have a VHF radio on me set to channel 69.

How to Get There:

Click the LINK and follow the maps to the Hog Island Gully Boat Ramp off of LA 27. The boat ramp is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes away from the convention center (with no traffic).

**If you get a chance to drive along the Louisiana beach front, that is one of the prettier drives to a fishing spot.
