I don't recall any time during my membership have we had so few trips posted to the events calendar. Not sure what has happened, but something has created this void. Our membership ranks have grown significantly, we have some new members stepping up and leading trips, and our core of long time members hasn't dwindled, so what is going on. I have some thoughts and would like other's opinions as well. My thoughts are: 1.the past leaders are getting tired of doing it year after year. 2.the numbers of people on some of the trips has grown too large, and being responsible for so many is a big issue. 3. Creating the trip plans is a bit of a chore 4. the insurance rules and paperwork is also a bit of a chore.
5. the economy is making it harder to get the time off. 6. All of the above, or none of the above. I'd love to hear what the rest of you think.

Those of us who have and continue to lead trips realize that this is one area that sets us apart from the other paddling/fishing clubs in the area. We have a very good group of people who step up and lead the trips and our members can count on there being organized outings where we know we won't have to fish alone. This was the biggest benefit I appreciated when I joined. We have a great group of knowledgeable fishermen, we get a long very well as a group, and we share the information we have gathered over the years. Please don't let that go to waste.

New members, if you have a favorite fishing destination, step up and lead a trip there. There are plenty of folks that will help you set it up or help with the plan. Old members, what's up with you guys. I know some of you have volunteered for trips and just haven't had time to put the plan on the site, but we still needs some guys to at least be willing to step up and put a trip on the calendar. Let's keep PACK the best kayak fishing club around.

You have hit on some good points. I am at fault in that I have been with the group for about 2 years now and have never take the lead roll at any of the trips. I myself have a full order on my scheduling with Boy Scouts, S.W.A.T. (a fishing club that I am with), and shift work. But as I look at the event schedule this year it looks like it needs some work on trip leaders to step up on. I am looking at my dates on my Yahoo calander at work right now looks like I plan on taking the task of trip leader for a few trips if I can or to help someone else out if they need the help. I do have vacation time that I can use for the weekends depending on the other two that I work with are not off at that particular time. As of now I may be able to take the Powderhorn trip for the March 26-28. I will be at the meeting tonight to volunteer if no one else has not done so.

I just want to do my part for a great group that has helped me become a better kayaker and fisherman.

Back in November when the trip leader solicitation email made the rounds I volunteered to lead two trips and never got a response back.

I think maybe a few people are over worked doing some of the background duties to keep the club going.  Maybe some of the posting of trips will get handed off to me so I can lift the burden some.  I've learned that alot of work is done that no one really sees.   You are right that now is the time for everyone to step up and carry the load getting our trips together.  My bride needs to know the dates I'll be gone so she can plan to party.
