Alan J and I ventured into the fresh waters of Fayette County Lake last week. We pulled up to the ramp and got out and were surprisingly greeted by Seacow who was staying at Oak Thicket Park with his family. The three of promptly launched and began fishing. Being new to bass fishing I had picked Ron R's brain in advance of the trip. I arrived confidently with a drop shot rig and a Carolina rig ready to go with watermelon and junebug finesse & centipede worms. The wind was blowing 1.5X to 2X stronger than forecast in the morning but it calmed somewhat in the afternoon. The bite was slow. Each of us caught at least one, though. I caught one on a drop shotted watermelon centipede in flooded timber and another on a Carolina rigged junebug centipede. Next time I go I'll take a drift anchor and at least 50 feet of anchor line to be able to fish some of the deeper water. The water was pretty and green, the air was crisp & cool and the sky was blue. The lake is small and beautiful and loaded with birds: ospreys, blue herons, white egrets and tons of ducks. We had the entire lake to ourselves with the exception of 2 or 3 boats. Even though the bite was slow it was a beautiful day on a beautiful lake with friends.

Nice bass! is that a new technique you picked up from Ron, to wrap you line all around the lure for that natural swimming effect? - Still a nice fish!! Thanks for the report

Barry... I'm proud of you!!! I don't care that your line got all wrapped up...it was a drop shot, the bass was hooked in the top of his mouth, just the way its suppose to happen...and the worm is just what I prescribed. I suspect the line wrap may have had something to do with the way you tied the hook onto the line.... figuring out the palomar knot to attach the hook to the drop line is a little tricky..... I now expect you to show up and provide guide service to the "know nothings" at our February outing.......

I'm so relieved that you did catch some fish and flattered that you actually tried my suggestions...PS I actually recognize the spot you are in...good location...

Really enjoyed fishing with Alan J. and Barry S. at Fayette County Lake. Barry failed to mention that I went for a short swim while attempting to salvage a set of rusty old fishing pliers in what appeared to be a couple feet of water by the boat ramp; but that is another story best suited for campfire humor and/or beer summits. Wear your life jacket...it floats when needed?! My waders hold more water than I expected. Many thanks to both for the fun filled day of fishing with friends. Looking forward to many more opportunities to learn from them and other PACK members.

My sister caught this fish on ultra lite tackle with 8 lb. test line using a 4 inch minnow from the pier.

Ron deserves credit for everything except for that tangled mess at end of my line. Mr. Bass can take all the credit for that. It must've taken me 20 minutes to untangle that bird's nest but I finally prevailed!

Nice fish your sister caught, Seacow. I've tested my waders to make sure they were sealed before, too. In fact, I almost tested my 4Runner once!
