Ok so I got myself a second hand truck so I can make some excursions this coming year with my outback. Santa gave me a bed extender and cargo be divider. So one of my final pieces is to get a tent.

Have been looking on REI but figured I would toss it out to the group and see if anyone has any good feedback on any tents they own or have owned.

REI half dome 2 or 4. I have the 4 and it will sleep 2 comfortably. Sets up in just a few minutes and stays dry in rain storms, and wind doesn't bother it.

As the owner of several tents I'll chime in on this one. All of the following tents are very dry and will hold up in the wind if properly set up. First of all is the Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight. ($200.00) This tent is very light weight and will pack down small. (Around 3.5 lbs.) I have had this tent for about seven years and it is my go to tent for solo backpacking. I have used this tent on a few PACK trips but it is very small. Next up is the REI Camp Dome 2. ($99.00) This tent is very easy and fast to set up. I would say it is the best bang for your buck. It has held up and kept me dry in 40 mph winds associated with heavy rains. My only complaint about this tent is that it can get a little stuffy. Not a lot of ventilation. Next up is the Marmot Limelight 3. ($200.00) I've only used this tent once. My wife and I used this tent on our last backpacking adventure. We were very comfortable in this tent. We also had our 50# dog in the tent with us. I'm really looking forward to using it on my next PACK trip. It's very roomy, has excellent ventilation and is also very easy to set up. This tent is a little larger but very similar to the REI Half Dome 2+. I also own the REI Half Dome 4. ($250.00) This is a big tent that is really meant for more than one person and is a little more difficult to set up. My wife and I use this tent for car camping. My advice would be to go to REI and look at the Camp dome or the Half dome tents. Ask if you can set them up yourself and choose what works the best for you and your budget.

I have had good luck with the REI Half Dome 2. This tent is roomy enough for one plus some gear, is easy to set up and will sustain high wind as well as any. If you need more room, the Half Dome 4 would be one to consider as well. Importantly, REI has an excellent warranty policy. I know several PACK members who have had their REI tents replaced at a very nominal expense after many years of use. So, regardless of which model you choose, REI is a very good source for a tent, in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback I have a deal with REI where I get a discount and some credits for things purchased in the past so will check them out and see what I like.
