A log time kayak fishing friend and I fished Cavasso Creek Sept.22 and for about an hour and half the 23rd. We caught 6lb. red, several ladyfish, and many gafftops on Sat. then fished just a short time on Sunday catching ladyfish and gafftop at will but no reds. The water was very fresh, off color, and very low tides with no visible movement. The creek was literally full of mullet but the water was too murky to see fish. We had lots of fun with the lady fish, gafftops, and fine dining with the redfish. We only saw four gators and only two were large. They must have been full of mullet because they didn't eat us. There is lots of grass there with little lakes up inside the north side of the creek. I would like to go back when the tides are higher and the water in better shape. Maybe the inland rain will slow down and the area will clear up a little with colder weather approaching.
Nice trip report....where is CC located?

Sorry about the slow reply Sightcast but have been sick for several days and just now getting back to the PC. Cavasso Creek crosses SH 35 just North of Fulton and there is a great place to launch on the sw side of the bridge. Conditions were bad the two days we were there but it is a good place to kayak fish. When you launch and head toward the bay if you stay on the left shoreline you will hit a cut that goes a long way back into grassy flats that should be good when the tide is up. In the mouth of that cut there is a hole with some deeper water. Wen i was there the water was very fresh because of all the waterfrom heavy rains filling the creek and St. Charles Bay which the Creek feeds. I have been told by a couple of friends that Cavasso Creek can hold some reallynice reds and that fishing is much better at high tide. Hope you have good luck if you try it.
Funny, I was just looking at PACK's map of all the spots we have gone last weekend at FTU Kayak Demo Days and we have never fished CC....that I can recall....we have fished Goose Island/ St Charles Bay and Copano Bay. That's sound like a great winter spot in the area where there is some deeper water for some Trout.... Were getting ready to propose 2008 PACK Trip locations so if you have any other spots like this you want to do next year....let me know.
For a weekend trip it's hard to beat Lighthouse Lakes and Brown and Root areas and they are right across the road from each other. Camping on the beach just out of Port A is pretty good or Fin and Feather has a tent area and a lighted dock. Showers are pretty rough at F&F but I survived them a couple of times and I left my tent site equipment in place while I fished and stuff has been safe there. goose Island is not more than a 25 minute drive and the camping there is great in colder months. Mosquitoes are terrible there in warm weather but it's very nice camping otherwise. I've caught more fish at LHL and B&R than any place I've fished so I partial but sure not an expert. Looking forward to some more trips with PackTx because the folks I've met are so darned nice. I really enjoyed the trip to Stingaree Marina even though I only caught one trout. The grassy flats and backwater just outside the marina was beautiful I really loved paddling there. Take care and hope to see you on a trip soon.
