I had a great day on the water today down at Powderhorn. I fished the incoming tide in PowderHorn and out in W Matagorda bay....and let me tell you it was on!! I got on the tail end of the bite I believe becuase it was mid a.m. by the time I paddled out to the bay from PH; the second incoming tide was already slowing down... I caught 7 nice Trout , smallest was 17" and biggest was 23" on a pink and chrome sides Skitterwalk. When I first started out, the wind was virtually neal, since there was a NE wind at 3mph. The lake at times was like a mirror. By the time I got out to the bay, the wind was about 7 to 10 mph, so the waves with the incoming tide was producing some 2 foot rollers. The bait was unbelievable today, tons of marsh shrimp and 3 to 4" size mullet schooling up and coming in with the rollers. You could see the mullet in the rollers. It seemed rough at first, as I threw the top water. I would cast between the roller sets and that's when they would come up and bust the crap out of the topwater. I lost about 3, they were hitting so hard that I would not get a good hook up sometimes....how they can miss those hooks still baffles me. PH was probably the highest I have ever seen it with tides running extremely high...about 2 to 2 1/2 feet above normal. The water was in great shape and had a dark green clear presence which matched well with the only two pink lures I brought for the trip. But let me say, I didn't do this on purpose, I left by lure bag in my truck along with my pliers as I was so excited to launch in the dark to start the day. As I progressed, I began taking inventory of items on my yak and noted no pliers and no lure bag. I thought to myself, this is great way to see how I would do in a two lure tournament and not lose my weapons. I paddled a loop and was back by 1:00pm...I estimate total paddling for today was a little over 5 miles. I was disappointed that I didn't catch any keeper Reds, I did catch a rat red on topwater. The Reds could be heard at day break ripping into bait in the flooded marshes. It was defintily an interesting trip seeing the high tides. The weather was perfect; no rain, but after 11am it was a little hot due to the light winds. I hope this is a prelude to a great October and the upcoming PP trip.

Tight Lines,

JT
