Spent Saturday in the Christmas Bay area to do some scouting for new locations. We had extremely low tides in the a.m.  The strong incoming tide was from 12 to 8pm.  We caught 6 trout and 2 reds in the afternoon.  The water this time of year on the North shoreline is incredibly 'Trout Green'.  As, I read the article in the December's Texas FishnGame, I can indeed see why Chester Moore titled his article XMas on Xmas Bay.  A few pics below....I also recommend us putting a work crew together to inventory the TWPD Christmas Bay paddling trail markers since PACK hasn't done this in a while.  We should use the inventory sheet under our Christmas Bay web page to track missing, broken, or repair needs for trail markers.  As you can see below that marker 28 labeling has faded and from paddling distance was not viewable.   Also, ran the old intracoastal from Xmas (Rattle Snake Point) thru Drum Bay to the IC and ran up into Essex Bayou to scout it out.  This has a nice boat ramp access from Blue Ocean Hwy and and you could padlle yaks accross into Essex Bayou and access marsh lakes....excellent Red fishing from Summer to Fall

Good trip, thanks for info.

You said you went up into Essex?

Last time I was there, saw two refuge signs at entrance stating that nonauthorized access prohibited.  I emailed the refuge to find out what these signs mean, since they weren' t there earlier in the year.   However, the Frank won't be back in the office till next week.  Will pass on any information provided.

Thanks Jim....interesting....I must have missed them....the signs were not very big....and my Top Spot Map shows this area as fishable waters....definitily interested to find out whats up.....I had my eye on this area for a while now but had never scouted it.
