Newbie here and looking forward to getting together with fellow coastal anglers, I am new to this forum and new to the world of kayaking and very excited about both. Just went crazy and bought not just one kayak, no I did not even buy two kayaks (me and wife) no I had to get three kayaks at once. I just did not want to hear "When do I get to go kayaking, or my turn, my turn". Anway enough of me rambling here. My questions here is - I am in the market for a VHF radio and wanted to see what everyone has and are they happy with that one?

Thanks in advance for responding and can't wait to wet a line with all of you in the very near future.

I have a West Marine 55. Bought it, a year ago, on sale for $100. Waterproof to 3 or 4 feet but it does not float. Battery life is really long and no problems so far. I carry the radio in the yak as well as the prop. Some times West Marine offers a modle that floats for $150. Just depends if you have butter fingers or not. Hope to see ya at one of our events.

Smitty,

Welcome. I recently bought the VHF radio that floats from West Marine the other day. I have owned the Cobra and Midland models and had trouble with a few of the channels. This radio comes with a three year warrenty and is very lite weight. I need something dependable because I carry it with me whenever I am on the water, kayak or PB. Also carry a card with all the channels with me so I don't get on the wrong channel that is not non-commercial.

Once again ..Welcome.
