I don't know about you guys, but my mental tape recorder was working overtime to keep up with the stream of information provided by Phil O at the the meeting Tuesday. He clearly has a passion for flat fish and no reluctance to share his knowledge. His demonstration of pitching and working the pounder was really pretty impressive. It is a little tough to perform that particular feat while sitting in a kayak, or even while wading in anything deeper than shin deep water, but if you can perfect that style of presenting a lure it really pays off fishing tight cover on the bass lakes too. I also learned from his method of popping the slack instead of popping the lure. Got to work great on clean muddy bottoms. Thanks to whomever rounded him up to speak at the meeting last night.

I'd also like to get some feedback about the DriGrip sunscreen, samples of which were passed out at the September meeting and at the Salt Lake Outing. This product advertises that it does not have a residue that will repel fish or harm live bait. It also claims to dry to a powder like feel and no oily feeling on the skin.

I've tried it out a couple times now and find it to be pretty much as advertised. I did use the stuff on a live bait trip recently that included croaker and live shrimp. Never saw any effect on the bait after liberal applications during a lot hot day on the water and it didn't seem to have any negative effect on the catching. Did anyone try out their samples.

The manufacturers are trying to get feedback on the product and trying to get their market established in Texas. They are a Florida outfit and have provided us with samples.

I agree. Absolutely passionate about the flatties! Great info.

I have heard him speak a few times and each time I've learned something new.  The man is full of stories.

Couldn't agree more.  Let's have him speak again.  I've used his lures successfully for years but learned a ton at the meeting.  If just a fraction of what he shared with us sticks I'll be a better fisherman.

The first flounder I ever caught on an artificial was on a strawberry w/ white tail Flounder Pounder....using his technique of SLOWLY raising the tip to 1:00 o'clock and letting it fall.  Didn't really realize, however, WHY the technique had worked, till he spoke about walking it across the bottom, and how the lure stayed "tail up".   Great way to work small areas thoroughly!

Can't wait to try the technque of "walking" the lure across the bottom by "popping the slack".

Other than the great camaraderie, this is why I joined P.A.C.K......to LEARN and become a better fisherman!

Great guest, and I hope he returns!  He sounds like a real pro, and I'd like to book a trip with him someday!
