We took the kayaks down to Del Rio and put in Lake Amistad at Rough Canyon and paddled up to the Devils River.  Spent 5 nights out there mostly exploring but got some fishing in too.  This is a beautiful lake especially up near the Devil's River because of the clear water, etc.  We camped in four different locations.  I caught bass, catfish and sunfish on soft plastics.  I caught a really nice chunky small mouth in the Devil's River.  There are some huge carp up there too.  We were lucky with the wind, it was strong but at our backs going out and coming back in except for the last day when it was not present and the only time we had to paddle.  We will be going back again next year!

Sounds fantastic. I've always heard that was an outstanding area to paddle. Was your entry to the lake at a campground, crossing or what. It sounds as if you paddled up stream, then turned around. What was the total distance that you covered. Could this be a club outing, ala South Llano River?

We put in in the Rough Canyon boat launch and paddled "upstream" to the Devils River about 16 or 17 miles.  Camped along the way a couple of times.  It could be a PACK trip, there are a couple of good sites about 7 and 9 miles up that could hold a small number of people.  But good camping places are limited.
