1. Would you donate a days catch of flounder to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Flounder Hatchery Program?
Yes (139) 99%
No (2) 1%

According to the PACK survey question on the home page of the PACK website, there appears to be some support for possibly helping out the flounder hatchery program with the Texas Parks and Wildlife program.  I recently was asked by a fellow co-worker, Bryan Treadway, at our office (Direct Energy), if I would be interested in helping volunteer by participating in some upcoming fishing tournaments this year that he is sponsoring.  I told him that PACK has many avid flounder fisherman who might be interested in helping too.  Whereas, he has not held a kayak division in tournaments yet, he would be interested in setting up a kayak division if he had help from volunteers to help support the efforts for keeping the flounder alive by picking up catches and delivering them back to the marina to be put into the TPWD's live transport tanks.  More info to come on upcoming tournaments per his email below as well as some volunteer work during the work week if you can get away for a few hours.

Bryan Treadway (pic above), whose volunteer efforts have raised funds for flounder-related hatchery work and provided angler-caught brood stock to Sea Center Texas, releases some of the more than 2,000 fingerlings in the first stocking of Galveston Bay with hatchery-produced flounder.  Please see his email requesting help and links to other articles for this program.  Bryan, is also recently writing articles for Texas Fish and Game, and don't be surprised if you don't hear him on a fishing show or two this year.  If your'e interested personally or as a PACK group this might be a fun way to give back to our environment as a service project, not to mention hopefully 'Tight Lines' for the future.  Let me know if your interested or feel free to contact Bryan.  Tight Lines!!

Subject:        Volunteer for Texas Parks and Wildlife - I could use your help

Hey everyone,
I have approached each of you as we all share the interest of fishing/ outdoors and I need your help.
We have the opportunity to help out a great cause with Texas Parks and Wildlife, via a matching grant though DE (see attached)

The Sea Center in Lake Jackson is one of the facilities that breeds Redfish and Trout so they can released back into the wild to grow big and fisherman can catch.

Well, they have been ramping up the flounder program and in the past three years have had great success.
They have had to rely mainly on private donation, as funding is limited in TPWD and that is where our efforts can help raise $2,500.
In February I was allowed to help release the 1st captive bread Galveston flounder into Galveston Bay.

I volunteer my time and organize a fun fishing tournament where a portion of the entry goes to Sea Center, but the fun thing is the flounder brought in all must be alive as they are sent to the Sea Center for breeding.
Here is another article on the event I do:

We just had the 1st event of the year Saturday, and it was a great success.

This event took 15 hrs of time for me to organize and throw.
There will be 3 more like this later this year.
June 12
September 11
October 23
If you could come out for a few hours and help one of these events that would be great
Don't have time with your busy schedules, no problem!
There are man way to contribute….
You could simply help me find companies to donate money to the Sea Center
You could help me find companies to donate prizes for anglers at the above event
You might have some fun new and unused outdoor/ fishing item laying around to donate to a future event for a door prize.
Or you could simply jump on my boat and go fishing for flounder so we can donate them back to Sea Center.
In reality if you don't have a lot of time, it's OK, as I will do most of the hours on my own time, but if you can contribute it would help feel the requirement to qualify for the larger grant.
Remember this is suppose to be volunteer time away from work.
Thanks,

Bryan Treadway
