PACKTX MEETING NOTES - June 21, 2011 @ Sosa Community Center
Introduction of visitors and new members.
Chris Arceneaux presented information on lightning safety. Tips included checking the weather forecast before your trip, paddle for shelter when you see a storm approaching, keep fishing rods low in the boat and stay low in your kayak.
The tournament date in September is still on the calendar for now but a person is needed to head up the planning. Contact Ron Romeis if interested in planning the tournament.
Fishing reports:
Terri Morgan gave an update on her recent trip to Wrangell, Alaska for some salmon fishing.
Michael Harris has been having good luck with trout in East Bay and Bruce Behrens showed a picture of a mixed stringer from East Matagorda.
Trip reports and updates:
Bruce Behrens gave an update of the Memorial Day weekend Matagorda Island trip. The wind resulted in tougher fishing conditions but fewer mosquitoes!
Dick McGonigle talked about the June 4th crawfish boil at his Virginia Point place in Galveston. Approximately 40 PACK’ers showed up and had a great time. Tons of food, plenty of beverages and a chance to catch up with other members.
Ken Jennings reviewed the June 11th San Bernard trip. Fish were caught as well as hog sightings.
Greg Corbett (gazebogreg) is leading a monthly fly tying session. They meet the first Tuesday of the month from 7 to 9 at the Sand Trap Grill on Beltway 8 across from the racetrack. July’s guest fly tier will be Marcos Enriquez and they will be tying the redfish slider. Let Greg know if you are going to attend so he can bring the right amount of supplies.
Guest Speaker
Kendal Larson (kendallarsonphotography.com) presented a slideshow of a May 2011 kayak outing from S. Padre using a mothership to go ~15 miles offshore and fish behind shrimp boats. He also showed photos from a trip to Mazatlan / Lake Mateos / El Salto Lake. This trip was a mix of salt water and fresh water fishing with lots of scenery and fishing action! His group worked with the guys at Anglers Inn.
Next month’s meeting will be July 19th, 6:30pm at the Sosa Community Center.
