I live 30 miles north of and work in SA so i was wondering how many of you are in my area. Don't have a kayak yet but am extremely interested in getting one to enjoy the area rivers along with Padre Island north and south.
When I do I thought it would be fun to have groups from this area get together.
And of course I'm always interested in what everyone is sitting on/in. The new models with foot propulsion are very appealing.
Any comments?
It is best to paddle a few before you decide on one. You can rent them or some stores have demo days. If you are experienced paddler then you probably know this stuff. For rivers people generally use shorter boats since the turn quicker. In open water longer boats are preferred because they track better and are easy to paddle for long distances. I know of one member in our club that has a Hobie with foot propulsion. I never used one but I have impressed by just watching them. Hobie is also making kayaks that you can attach sails to..
I've been paddling an Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro (14.9 ft) that I bought in 1997 and I have always thought it was a great boat. When they stopped making the dual hatch models I went out and bought a second one, with dual hatches. My thinking was that when the first one wore out I would still have one that I like, I'm not a fan of tank wells.. So far I'm still paddling the first one.
