I just talked to a friend of mine who is an experienced fly fisherman. He fished the Lagoon and Shoalwater Bay today with another flyfisherman and a guide. They were fishing from a shallow water skiff. He said when the day started the wind was out of the southeast but came around to out of the north as the day wore on; there was plenty of water in the bay at the time of their departure early this morning. He said the wind made casting very difficult. They saw some fish but could not get them to take what few flies they were able to get in the vicinity of the fish. The reds were not tailing or showing their backs so they had no clear targets to which to cast. They did see some shrimp in the bay. When they came in, the north wind had blown the water out of the bay and it was much more shallow than when they left. They came in around 2:oo having caught no fish.

We are several days away from departure but it appears the wind will continue to be a factor for the rest of the week and into the weekend. Should there be a north wind before we launch, the flat at the entrance to Shoalwater will be very shallow. Hopefully, the fish will get hungry about the time we arrive.
