Ellen and I went to Port A for long weekend to celebrate our anniv.   We started it off  on Friday by fishing with Jack Sanders of Flatstalkers and Jim Heil.  You can see some more pictures and read a blog on our fishing trip on Flatstalkers website.

What a trip, I caught a lot of reds and small trout on my old favorite, a Tx Roach Flats Minnow on 1/8 & 1/4oz jig.  Ellen, was nominated the flounder queen for her nack of catching the flatfish.  However, she couldn't seem to buy a redfish  bite.  She was using 3" new penny gulp approx 18 inches under  a cajun thunder cork.

How I have fallen in love with the clearer water.

Most of the trouts and reds were caught while drifting in approx 3 feet of water casting into the sand pockets mixed throughout the grass beds.  However, I did catch a couple of nice redfish early along the shoreline in approx 18" water on top dog jr (chartreuse with red head).  Ellen caught her trout and flounder at the mouths of the cuts leading from the flats to the boat channel.

The weather was great, the fishing good and the company excellent.

Saw lots of kayakers around LHL and Hog Island, but not sure how they did.

FYI - Ellen did finally get her redfish on Sunday when we went on one of the jetty boats in Port A for a quick relaxing trip.  It was her largest fish yet at 38-1/2" which won the big fish pot on the boat that included a free fishing trip.  Hope she takes me...J/K

Alex,

Thanks for comments.  My wife and I really enjoyed it.  She was skeptical at first, but she got the hang of it real quick.

The flatstalker was fun to fish from and I see that it has its place.  It was very stable and I liked being able to stand alot and could see the sand pockets before I got to them.  As a fishing platform, lot more comfortable than a kayak.  In the flats, you end up poling, not really paddling.

If you have any more questions, just let me know.

Jim
