Got to fish a couple hours Friday evening and Saturday morning at Fayette Lake. Ice Cream conditions and cooperative fish. Fished the Main Lake Point friday with a carolina rig and managed just a handful of fish. Didn't venture very far, but enjoyed having this area basically to myself. Tried the fly rod, but my casting skills need some more work to attract any fish. They weren't hitting topwater baits either that afternoon so I don't feel too bad about no strikes on the fly. Saturday was another story. Paddled to Game Warden Point before daylight and was casting at 6:30. Nothing on the top again, surprisingly, so I went to a drop shot set up and proceeded to catch fish after fish until about 8:30. Had no witnesses except for the two bass boats that pulled up and were fishing the same point. I was catching fish on nearly every cast and these guys were starting to get _issed. They were throwing topwaters, worms, spinner baits, crank baits, you name it. Its always fun to out catch the power boat crowd..

I was using Zoom Super Salt Centipedes and Finesse worms in watermelon and junebug. Both were the baits that Bob Green had turn me onto. I think any red/green combination would have worked, but the drop shot rig really out fished the carolina rig this trip. I was fishing in 10-15 foot of water. After the bite slacked off at nine, I paddled over to Buzzard Point and worked the shoreline but only picked up the occasional fish on a spinner bait and worm rig. I called it a day at noon.

If anyone wants to do another run to Fayette this fall, give me a shout. The bass are biting...

Excellent Report...

Love that watermelon centipede on Fayette. That and a chrome spin trap (rattle trap with spinner on back in lieu of hook) has taken a lot of fish. Took 2nd and large bass honors a number of years ago with just those 2 baits. Like you said great feeling to outfish the guys with those high dollar bass boats w/ dozen rods rigged on deck.
