Meeting Minutes - Tuesday 15 July 08
1. Meeting opened with a welcome to 27 members and 6 newbies An old member (Capt Jack Krohn) and 5 guests (Ellis, Pauline and youngster Scott, Randy and Dr. Jerry)
2. Members were reminded to keep their memberships current to PACK and ACA. They can visit http://packtx.org/ web site for current status.
3. Buy/Sales/Trade items Members present didn't want to part with anything this month but keep an eye on the web site classifieds. Never know when a super deal gets posted.
4. PACK is talking with the Sea Wolf Park manager about putting in a kayak launch, if members could donate a day's labor. Members this might be your chance to assist the club in getting a dedicated launch spot. Becuase of new development or new land owners access to Pelican Island is going to be cut off one day (probably sooner than later) so we need to ensure we have a have to access that side of the island.
5. Adrian was impressed with a recent visit to the Lake Jackson Sea Center Texas and has suggested that during the fall flounder run maybe PACK could donate a day's catch to the Sea Center's Hatchery for brood stock. What do ya’ll say?
6. Past months trip reports were given by Chris on the Matagorda Outing, Adrian on the Snook trip to Boca Chica and Milton reported on the Colorado River trip. These reports have been posted on the web site but you won't find sand in your teeth, wind in your face and rain on your back unless you go on a pack outing.
7. PACK members Adrian Ramos and Randy Frusina conducted an ACA Introduction to Kayaking class for 10 students at Hidalgo Falls on the Brazos River. Students and trainers camped out Friday and Saturday night. Areas taught include safety, paddling techniques and strokes, deep water re-entry (assisted and unassisted). The class was followed up by a 4 mile paddle down the Brazos. The Hidalgo Falls property is a private 13 acre campsite and owned by the Texas River Protection Association). Membership and access is available for a small donation (www.txrivers.org) .
