PACK Meeting Minutes - Tuesday – 19 August 08
1. Meeting opened early with about 31 members and 7 guests present – we welcomed Marcus, Terence, Jacob, Doby, Ken, Miles, and Bill as guests or first time attendees and at the end of the meeting we even had 2-3 new members who signed up right there.
2. Trip Reports
- Llano River weekend - Jim Richards reported on a hugely successful and enjoyable Llano River Trip – We ran into "Slowride" with a scout troop and enjoyed the company of past president Jerry B. The Llano reminded us that we are fishermen and not whitewater kayakers. The Llano River is not close by but well worth the trip because of the great fishing, the rapids, the camping and the peaceful serenity you can only get on a quiet river. I think we’ll be back.
- Salt Lake trip - trip leader couldn’t make it but 7 or 8 memers made the trip to the Brazopria County Wildlife preserve anyway. Barry S gave us a report - he caught fish; Alex T made his firsty trip with PACK and had a great time (not as good as Bay Flats Lodge but ok anyway).

FYI - its the same weekend as Smith Point.
- The marketing company the Riverstone development wants us to do the same thing at their lake during their grand opening for 3 weekends in October (off of Hwy 6-- just about 3 miles south of US-59) – please contact me if you are interested.
- KASA – their heroes on the water program was recently awarded a $50,000 grant – they intend to use part of that to buy two trailers for transporting kayaks – they will need some help in building a configuration that can handle the kayaks safely and without damaging them – contact Chris Arceneaux if you have some ideas orare willing to help
5. Guest Speaker – Chris Arceneaux introduced our guest speaker Mr. T.J. Pilgrim aka Jolly Roger- he shated his Beyond the Breakers fishing experiences – offering tips on how to catch large gamefish (jackfish, king fish, Spanish mackerels, ling, tripletail). You can troll for these fish a few hundred yards out from the shore. The 3 best baits for BTB are rattle-traps, diving baits and big plastics squids – he says you can catch anything in the water on those 3 baits. He offered advise regarding some fish – jackfish: not good eating, mackerel: not good eating, ling- very good eating, tripletail – very good eating, king fish – nasty!. Don’t use braided line your first time out. He and some of the other TKF BTBers should be offering a BTB class for newbies sometime in October – keep your eye on TKF under the BTB category
6. Future Speakers
- September – Scott Jones -
- October – Bill Bragman – Yak-Gear
