January Meeting Post Mortum

Thanks to everyone who helped with last night's meeting. Especially, Dean "Slowride" Thomas and Jennifer for making the trip up from Aransas Pass. My apologies to Dean and Jennifer for not arriving at Baker's in time to greet you both properly.
Thank you Ken J for the great job of promoting the meeting and generating the large turnout. It was a record attendance and we look forward to keeping the momentum going for the rest of the year.
I really appreciate the help with organizing the room, Chris A, Joseph O, and Bill B. I will try and get a better handle on the technology and apologize for the technical glitches as we struggled with our computers and gear. Thanks Andrew D, Michael H, Bruce B for helping us with those glitches. Thanks to anyone I've missed, Barry S, Jim R, and anyone else who help us with the set up and take down.
Quite a few folks made contributions to the meeting and I was appreciative of everyone's participation. I reviewed the recording of the meeting and realized there were a couple of times when I perhaps didn't give everyone an opportunity to totally make their points or finish their thoughts, Dick M, John M, Alex T, Michael H. I was a bit paranoid of our time constraints and ask that you all bear with me as I learn the ropes of hosting the meetings. I really want to include more of you in the meeting and give anyone who has an interest in speaking a chance to do your thing.
We do have some new rules to consider with our use of REI's stockroom. Our contract with them limits attendance to 45 people. It is necessary for safety and for their employees access that we keep our group within the seating area. We are supposed to keep a pathway clear at the doorway to the room and back to the merchandising areas. We didn't do too badly considering our very large turnout, but I realized that I may have barked about it a little too much. We are working to find ways to manage large turnout for the really excellent group of speakers we have lined up this year. I'm sorry we weren't able to seat everyone and that some of you were perhaps a little uncomfortable standing. We also have to be out of the stockroom by 8:30. Sorry we had to rush everyone out, but that does give you a little while to shop before the store closes.
To all those first time visitors and new members: It was great to see so many of you there. In my first meeting jitters, I totally forgot to recognize you at the start of the meeting like I had planned. Hopefully, you will return next month to hear Vincent from Team Ocean Kayak and give me another chance to recognize you individually. We really want to know about your interests in PACK and what we can do to provide content you are interested in hearing. Please give us another chance and we hope you will join us on our upcoming events.
I'm open to comments, suggestions, criticisms, ideas from you all for making the meetings better. I'm totally new at this, my skin is pretty thick, and I really want our meetings to be interesting, entertaining, educational, and worth your time. Please don't hesitate to share your opinions.
I hope to see you all at next months meeting on February 15. |
