Better Late then Never Highland Bayou Trip Report

14 people ascended on the highland bayou hideaway on Saturday.  We had 9 members and 5 visitors.

The road in was muddy in spots so we didn't go to the end of the road.  We launched along the canal between Vernon's property and the other neighbors.  We were on the water before 8am.

Most of the day we had Ice cream conditions.  We started fishing along the RR bridge.  Thomas landed a rat red so I anchored facing the bridge with the current coming under the bridge.  There were two loons swimming under water and coming up with small shad or croaker.  So the fish should be there.  Using soft plastics we pulled 6 or 7 keeper trout and a flounder from the bridge area.

Some of the group went north looking for reds in the flats and marsh.  I did not get a record of their catch.  We squeezed under the RR Bridge and tried the other side of the bridge.   They were not by the bridge on the other side but they were in the deep lakes in the area.

Thomas reported lots of dinks and a few small reds in the deep lakes south of the bridge and I found 1 keeper red.  This gave me Texas slam for the day.

John an I made it back tothe launch area around 2:30 and did not see any other kayakers in the area.  We cleaned fish and called it a day.

Sea you on the water,
