PINS Yarborough Pass Trip Report
By Ken J @ 6:48 AM :: 3735 Views

This past week the PACK Armada spent the weekend at PINS with the hopes of fishing Yarborough Flats. In short, Yarborough Pass was not drivable. Several brave or stupid (none of us) 4x4’s tried, but got stuck in the Pass. Saturday early evening we witnessed several vehicles getting stuck, also seeing the rescue vehicle getting stuck as well; hours spent digging all out. We set up camp on the beach up against the duns just south of Yarborough Pass. We all fished the surf; there is no shortage of Skipjacks/Lady fish, and Whiting. A couple of undersized Trout were caught, also a couple of small Jacks. It didn’t seem to matter what bait you tossed, shrimp touts, corkey’s, gulps, or a spoon they all worked. A couple of Stingrays were seen swimming in the first gut. Weather was great. The surf was green/clear to the beach, but ruff. Saturday everyone took off exploring, Eli back to Bird Island, and Spuds all the way to the Mansfield Jetty’s. We witnessed a bird feeding frenzy, but it was just out of reach of our casting distance ability. We did give it a try. Sunday on our way out we all witnessed the craziest thing. At the 10 mile marker was a mini-Cooper parked up against the duns. How in the world did it get that far down the beach? The driving was difficult with the wheel ruts two feet deep in the soft sand. How did the Cooper get around the camps that were on the crowns without getting stuck in the sand? In short all had a good time; PACK will be doing PINS again next year with the hopes of getting over to Yarborough Flats.
