New PACK Trip this weekend. Pelican Island Wade Fishing (Flounder Run)

Dick McGonigle (Trip Leader) is providing Ferry Service to Pelican Island from the end of the Texas City Dike.    This is a wade fishing trip.  If you want to kayak it is only a 2.5 mile paddle to the location.

The PACK Ferry is in my boat from the boat ramps at the end of the Texas City Dike to my favorite  flounder spot along Pelican Island's north shoreline  on Saturday,  December 1, 2012 at 6 a.m.  The limits go up to 5 that day and the fishing has been as good as in many years. The tides are great, there's near a full moon, the water temp  is perfect, and the 10 mph breezes APPEAR  to offer an excellent trip.  Though I will be out there all day (as I frequently am), I will ferry some back in the middle of the day if desired.  Anyone with their own life jacket and sandwich who makes arrangements with me by phone at my cell (713- 498-1747) is welcome.  They should look for the white 22 ft high-snouted aluminum boat with the white 2500 4x4 suburban with kayak racks.  I hope to leave the dock by 6:30 a.m.  I recommend rigging up in advance with a tandem rig comprised of a 1/4 oz lead head jig with red and white or root beer with yellow curly tail tipped with shad, flounder belly or bit of shrimp on a 2-3 foot leader and a simple 2/0 kahle hook with chartreuse curly tail gulp with no split shot for weight on another leader 6-8 inches shorter.  With near a full moon the bite should keep getting better off and on for most of the day with  back to back great tides.

For those choosing to paddle out from Sea Wolf Park for 2 1/2 miles along the Houston Ship Channel you will see us on the Pelican Island shoreline.  Periodic tanker swells dictate that you pull your yak way up on the beach and/or anchor it to avoid a swell taking it away.
