Why does is the PACK Club associated with the American Canoe Association?
As you know, the PACK club is a non-profit organization with historically low dues. $15 for the past 20 years. What other active outdoor oriented club can say that? In order to complete the circle of safe operating, we need low-cost liability insurance for our on-the-water activities.
The right policy would protect members against liability claims brought by event participants (or their family members) who have been injured and are seeking compensation for their injuries while participating in our kayak fishing events and tournaments. This insurance will pay the legal costs of defending against an allegation of liability and will also pay damages, up to the policy limit.
As an ACA Paddle America Club, PACK pays a premium to the ACA for this insurance. We respectfully ask the PACK folks to maintain their ACA membership. It was reduced to $25 year and includes your annual contribution to liability insurance. Other ACA membership benefits can be found on this ACA Link: https://www.americancanoe.org/page/Benefits Please note, its just the one fee if you belong to more than one kayak / canoeing club.
The ACA also provides this coverage for our events as well as off-water activities such as parties and meetings. It was determined years ago and stated in our bylaws: Article II: Membership Fees Annual dues: $15 per year for PACK membership plus the cost of affiliate membership with the American Canoe Association (ACA). This position was reaffirmed recently at our 2019 board meeting.
Because we take safety seriously - PACK has been fortunate. The club and fishing trip participants have not been faced with any legal action. We want to continue this good trend! The board will do everything possible to smooth out any ACA membership issues. You should be notified when your ACA membership is due. It is separate from PACK membership notices. Their waiver, which is our waiver is all “paperless” now when you renew. I can send you the link. We get periodic membership statements for the ACA. Here is the link to log on to the ACA: https://www.americancanoe.org/general/register_member_type.asp You may be hearing from me or Michael Emshoff to assist you in the renewal process.
Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your feedback. Chris Arceneaux 2019 PACK president Contact me anytime. chrisarceneau@gmail.com 832-216-2483 |
