PACK - STINGAREE TRIP REPORT-August 18, 2007

Our Stingaree Mariana/ east bay outing was threatened with unsettled weather and found itself sandwiched between two tropical storms. Erin blew past to the south in the days before the trip and Dean loomed in the Caribbean, but the true diehards that showed up this Saturday were rewarded with manageable weather and fishable water.

About 10 members and guests were present for a beautiful daybreak launch. Some headed for the marshes along the intra-coastal, some fished Stingaree cut, and some paddled down to Yates Bayou and the big meadow. Tides were higher than normal and the fish were scattered, but most everyone scratched out a few fish. A very nice limit of specs came out of the cut on live shrimp caught by Mark? a guest who was put on his hot spot by Buzz B. Buzz and Joel B headed for the marshes along with Earl B.

Buzz and Earl picked up a few flounder and a misc. slam... whiting, croaker, spec, flounder and trout. Oh and the occasional hard head. Not sure how Joel B did in his secret honey hole with live bait.

Earl B made his first trip to a Pack outing coming from Oklahoma for the day...Earl is a landlocked, but addicted salt water angler seeking weekday companions on the coast.. If you are looking for a partner send a message to tishkayaker. Look forward to seeing Earl on future trips.

Adrian R scored a very nice stringer of flounder. A very nice 4+ pounder, another 3+ pounder topped his bag. I understand these were personal best flatties... way to go Adrian.

Brian C came on his first outing and brought his three brothers. I didn't get a fish count from Brian but they were working the east bay shoreline and stingaree cut and picking up the occasional fish.

A brief rain shower with a little lightning interrupted the action around noon, so several guys took advantage of the covered patio at the marina, or headed to the restaurant for a little refreshment. After the shower, a few diehards headed back out and the leader hung in until about 1:30 and called it a day.

Stingaree once again proved to be a good kayak friendly destination, with easy paddling access to a variety of fishing opportunities. Considering the threatening weather and steamy temps the outing wasn't nearly as hot as expected and there were some nice fish caught. Thanks to Joel B for taking pictures and to all that participated in the outing.
