PACK meeting minutes August 21, 2007
PACK opened the meeting and welcomed new members, guests and acknowledged existing members. PACK had 45 Members and 15 Guests for a total of 60 in attendance. Treasurer Eli Rivera gave a brief financial summary for the year ending July 2007. President, Jason Talley discussed our association with the American Canoe Association for event insurance as well safety issues when planning kayak outings and being on the water. He reviewed the need for wearing pfd’s and carrying radios, cell phones and a whistle. We also discussed the purpose of fishing with a buddy.
Meeting items discussed. Jason talked about a recent trip to Cedar Bayou, noting that the bayou has been reduced to one half it’s size from two years ago due to sediment filling in the cut. He, Craig and Bruce fished Mesquite Bay and caught limits of reds and some trout. Participants in the last weekend’s outing out of Stingaree’s on Boliver, lead by Ron Romeis reported that some of the guys caught fish and that Adrian brought some nice flounder under cloudy but nice conditions. We had TJ or aka "Jolly Roger" (ask known on the kayak boards) talk to PACK about Beyond the Breakers. TJ spoke to us about the rigging requirements and the do's and don't to be successful at catching mainly Bull Reds. TJ touched on proper equiment and techiniques for this awesome experience. We will post in the PACK website some of these points made by TJ in the Helpful Stuff section. Thanks TJ for the awesome talk and the slideshow you presented. PACK looks forward to next month's meeting and look forward to seeing you there.
