Two local American Canoe Association (ACA) kayak training events are on offer Oct 23 - 26 2020, courtesy of Ms. Lynne Andrus and RiverCoast. In both cases the instructor is Jeff Atkins. Jeff is a Level-5 Open Water Coastal Kayaking Instructor and Level 3 Instructor Trainer in Coastal Kayaking.
First: Level 2 Trip Leader Course & Assessment ($285): The purpose of the Level 2 Essentials of Kayak Touring Trip Leader (L2: EKTTL) training is to prepare individuals who intend to lead other paddlers, either recreationally or professionally, in protected coastal environments. The emphasis of the training is on leadership and group management while also improving personal paddling skills, maneuvers, and rescues. The Level 2 environment is held in protected waters (wind up to 10 knots, waves up to one foot, no surf with up to one-foot shore break, and current up to one knot). This course follows ACA's Level 2 Trip Leader Skills course as a guideline. Participants will also have the opportunity to earn ACA's Level 2 Trip Leader assessment.
Course venues are Mammoth Lake, by Clute TX, (Friday) and bay near San Luis Pass (Saturday).
Second: Level 3 Trip Leader Course & Assessment plus L3 Skills Assessment ($285): The purpose of the Level 3 Coastal Kayaking Trip Leader (L3: CKTL) training is to prepare individuals who intend to lead other paddlers, either recreationally or professionally, in rough water coastal environments. The emphasis of the training is on leadership and group management while also improving paddling skills, maneuvers, and rescues. The Level 3 environment includes rough water (wind 10 - 15 knots, waves 1- 2 feet, surf 1 - 2 feet, and current 1 - 2 knots). This two day course follows ACA's Coastal Kayaking L3 Trip Leader (CKTL) Training Course (L3) Trip Leader course guidelines with the opportunity to earn the ACA Trip Leader assessment (up to Level 3). In addition, participants may earn their ACA L3 CK Skills assessment (required for future ACA Level 3 Instructor courses) during this course or later check-off.
