Trip Description:  Our main goal for this event will be to have fun and try to catch some fish. Tide isn't too major this day (1/2 a foot drop over the day) so I'm not too worried about fishing this area.

My target arrival time is 5:00 AM, hopefully on the water by 5:30 AM. Sunrise at 6:30AM. Incoming tide ends around 8:30. I think this would be a good flounder opportunity at the ending of high tide. Want to get to fishing spot asap to hit the solunar which coincides with the sunrise.  There it's also a minor feed around lunch time.

Reds and specs are possible throughout the day and especially at marsh drains.

We will launch for San Luis Pass (SLP) and head to Tilum Tatlum Bayou mouth area for the morning solunar. After the sun gets up and we've had enough of that we will make our way up to Bird Island area. I'll stay at TT bayou a little after sunrise incase anyone launched after sunrise and is making their way over. There are deep channels which I plan to troll a blue back chrome colored rat-l-trap and maybe a heavy weight jig in the cuts on the way up.

There is a lot to fish around Bird island, some major marsh drains from mud island in the area too. I think the big 3 could be in all areas with the outgoing tide. Bird island you can get out and wade if you want (keep on your life jacket due to cuts all over the place!)

At that point you can head back to launch, keep fishing, or follow for a longer trip up to the bastrop bayou cut and hit the cut and marsh up there. I've calculated that out to about a 7 mile round trip. If you want to head back from Bird island it's about a 3-4 mile.

And finally, if you don't want to do 3-4, there is a shorter option to go down to the little marsh south of the houses after Tilum Tatlum in the morning.

Major Solunar activity predicted between 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM. Another mini window around lunch.

Flounder is a good possibility so make sure you have some flounder gear (Gulp swimming mullet / or Chicken Boy Bubba-Clucker on a 1/4 oz jighead is my setup).

1/4 to 3/8 oz jigs for deeper water (maybe even 1/2 oz if you are comfortable with it!) Drains could hold reds and you might want weedless or floating for the oyster areas in ther marshes.

I'll be fishing lures mainly and try to keep moving. The 1st part of the morning I'll stay put around TT Bayou until we get fed up or limit out!

I might buy some mullet too. I know the bait camp there by the pass generally only carries mullet, no shrimp, so be forewarned.

See map for general game plan.

Bring your VHF radio, we'll use channel 69.  Have all you safety safety equipment:  Life jacket, whistle, fishing license.  It'll be hot, have water, electrolyte replacements, snacks, and hat.

If you make the sunrise bite you must have a 360 lamp required by law. If you want to wait for sunrise then you don't need the lamp. Make sure you let me know that you launched later and we will wait for you at TT bayou.

Map:   Note the circled area is my general ideas and seqeuncing.

If you want to go, login, and click the [Enroll for this Event] link on the top of this page to automatically have your name added to the list.

How to Get There:  Enter San Luis Pass Park, Freeport, TX 77541 in your navigation device. It's the Public Boat at San Luis Pass County Park.

There are 2 boat ramps, the more souther one is a little alrger and could allow us to launch a kayak while boats are putting in. Generally in the mornings before 1st light it's not crowded.

Be aware of the speed limit in Surfside.
