Trip Description:
If you have never fished Port O' Connor before, you are truely in for a wonderful fishing spot. The water typically is the pretty color we wish to see when fishing but can't because we fish the Galveston/Surfside area where that water is brackish. The fishery is quite unique. There is an abundance of fish there. Aside from catching red fish, trout, and flounder; there is a chance of catching fish such as jack crevalle, spanish mackerel, and more.
Sometimes I do use live croaker/shrimp, but most of the time I am using artificial. If you are using artificial, some of the things that work well are:
* soft plastics (rig for weedless)
* spoons
* popping corks
* gulp
* soft plastic w/ blades
* crank baits
* just about anything you would throw elsewhere works here
As you are fishing, don't be surprised if you see a dolphin show. They show up quite frequently and sometimes they like to jump. Other things you will see are a manta ray go airborn. Schools of jacks will come in shallow thrashing the bait. Be ready to thow into those with anything if you want a great fight!
Launch time is at 6:00 am. The launch fee is $5.00. The Fishing Center opens at 5:00 am. If you are buying bait, be sure to get there right as they open. If they have a tournament going on that day, you don't want to be in the back of the line. If you have any questions, feel free to call me. 832-588-7091
