Trip Initiator: Ken Huebel
Trip Description:
This trip will be setup to run Saturday and Sunday. The plan will be to meet at the Bastrop River Company at Fishersman’s Park at 8 am Saturday morning. There are several campgrounds and hotels for accommodations on Friday night. We will load up and the shuttle service will take us to the launch point at the FM 969 shortly thereafter. The cost of the shuttle will be $20 per kayak (tip not included but certainly encouraged). Parking at Fisherman’s Park will be free but a permit will be needed (permits are free). All items you plan to take for the two day/one night trip must fit in/on your kayak safely. This is a primitive camping trip, I’m not talking about a Rahal primitive trip where everyone takes everything including the kitchen sink, lol…. Saturday will consist of floating down the first segment ending at Boy Scout Island where we will setup camp. Aerial imagery shows Boy Scout Island have areas of sparsely vegetated ground to the north and forest to the south. The island should be large enough to accommodate multiple groups of kayakers so we should be able to find a spot there. Worst case we can find another island or gravel/sand bar to camp on for the night. Sunday morning, we will push off and float to Fisherman’s Park where our vehicles will be parked. See the attached map for more details about the trip. This link

also has useful information, however the duration of the paddle is incorrect.
For fishing tackle, I would recommend ultralight/light/medium rods for casting small to medium sized baits. I’ve had really good luck on 3/8 oz H&H spinnerbaits from Academy and 4" powerbait soft plastic worms Texas rigged with a 1/16 oz bullet weight. I’m sure any of your favorite bass lures will be very effective on the water as well.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
